I want to talk about the imagination that gives us a moment to breathe in, amidst the unspoken pressure of constant responsibility and persistence in modern world. It is a story about a girly aspiration within daily life, that I believe we all have within us. So we can track the entire plot on a single canvas with metaphors and allegories.

Heterotopia
There is news that Voyager II, which was launched into space in 1977, has moved away from our galaxy but still sends a faint signal to Earth. The news reminds me of a seven-year-old girl’s imagination falling into her own heterotopia. Fragmented space filled with vibrant colors showcases her world of doodling, drawing, and painting. How many deceased celebrities could Voyager meet by chance in the celestial realm?
*Philosopher Michel Foucault uses the term heterotopia (French: hétérotopie) to describe spaces that have more layers of meaning or relationships to other places than we live in. So it means a physical representation or approximation of a utopia, or a parallel space that make a real utopian space possible.

In-Yeon
In-Yeon is a Korean conceptual word that originated from Buddhism, representing predestined relationships between humans, humans and animals, or even humans and objects. To understand the coincidental yet inevitable relationships in our lives, I rely on various myths, historical episodes, and theories of reincarnation.
The expression of characters are inspired by the vintage cartoons of the 70s and 80s in Korea that have already disappeared decades ago.
These subcultural characters from 2D black and white comic books are now showcased in the realm of fine art under the label of ‘Kitsch’

Previous Works
When I couldn’t sleep at night due to insomnia, I constantly painted what I found on social media. I felt the lump in my heart unravel as I drew and painted with a sense of emptiness. How could I overcome the pressure of the weight on my shoulders as a working mother in Korea, a country that is always ranked at the bottom of the Global Gender Gap Index, without the help of art? It is said that a dream is not a destination, but a voyage itself. The moment I painted during midnight, I felt as if I had achieved my dream of the “perfect moment.”
